October 2005 Newsletter PROFS Discusses Federal Funding of Research with Wisconsin Congressional Delegation In May, PROFS lobbyist Jack O'Meara and Professor Richard Burgess, President of PROFS, spent time in Washington D.C. visiting the offices of the Wisconsin Congressional delegation. The visits were part of PROFS' ongoing relationship-building with the delegation, emphasizing the importance of federal funding for the cutting-edge research done at UW-Madison. Burgess and O'Meara met with Senator Kohl and an aide to Senator Feingold. Both Senators are members of the Senate Aging Committee and both are interested in Alzheimer's research. They also met with Representative Baldwin, who as a member of the Energy and Commerce Committees, discussed her involvement in the reauthorization of NIH. They met with the staffs of Representative Obey, the ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee and Representative Ron Kind.
