Governor Vetoes 1.5% Contribution to Retirement

PROFS Led Campaign to Have the Provision Vetoed

In a press conference in the Red Gym on July 19, Governor Doyle announced his veto of a provision to require some state employees, including UW faculty and staff, to contribute 1.5% of their salary towards their retirement benefits. The provision had been inserted into the budget in a late night session of the state Senate.

PROFS led the campaign to have the governor veto the provision. PROFS sent a letter to the governor, talked with his staff, worked with the media and other interested groups, and generated dozens of emails and calls to the governor from faculty and others.

PROFS thanks the over 70 faculty who first contacted the governor and the faculty who later thanked him.
