PROFS Lobbying

In February, prior to the governor's introduction of his budget, PROFS representatives, including Patricia Flatley Brennan (Nursing/Industrial and Systems Engineering, Steven Cramer (Civil and Environmental Engineering), Richard Burgess and Jack O'Meara, met with the governor's budget director, David Schmiedecke, and also Amy Kasper, the governor's advisor on UW issues.

They discussed the need for competitive faculty compensation and showed statistics on faculty leaving the university for higher salaries. PROFS representatives are meeting with the members of the Joint Committee on Finance and other key legislators to stress the points made by Richard Burgess in his testimony.

While PROFS is concentrating its lobbying for the competitive compensation money on top of the pay plan, we have reservations about funding some of the items in the budget with cuts to positions at the university and also the lack of any increases for libraries and informational technology.
